Microsclerotherapy
What is Microsclerotherapy?
Microsclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to treat small varicose veins and spider veins, particularly those on the legs. The technique involves injecting a strong solution (the sclerosant) directly into the affected veins using a very fine needle. This solution irritates the vein walls, causing them to collapse and eventually be reabsorbed by the body. Over time, this leads to the fading or complete disappearance of the treated veins.
Microsclerotherapy is a minimally invasive, relatively quick procedure. It is usually performed on an outpatient basis, making it a popular choice for individuals looking to improve the appearance of their legs without extensive surgery.

What are the Benefits of Microsclerotherapy?
While spider veins typically don’t cause symptoms, they often pose a cosmetic concern, leading clients to avoid exposing their legs, especially during the summer. Microsclerotherapy is a highly effective treatment to significantly reduce their appearance.
Day of Treatment
On the day of your treatment at Cosmetic & Veins Clinic, Dr Anuya will walk you through the treatment process, provide detailed aftercare instructions, and address any questions or concerns.
During the procedure, you’ll lie comfortably on a bed while Dr Anuya carefully injects the visible spider veins using a fine needle. Most patients experience only mild discomfort, with the procedure typically lasting 30-45 minutes. After the treatment, the injected veins may appear slightly inflamed and irritated, resembling mosquito bites. Rest assured, this is a normal response and nothing to worry about.
Post Treatment
After your treatment, we’ll provide you with a compression stocking that you’ll need to wear for a week. During this time, it’s important to walk for an hour each day and avoid strenuous exercise to minimise the risk of developing deep vein thrombosis. We also recommend refraining from alcohol consumption on the day of your treatment.
It’s normal to experience some redness, inflammation, and bruising around the injection site for several weeks after treatment.
Typically, Microsclerotherapy is recommended for three to four sessions to achieve a noticeable improvement in the appearance of spider veins. It usually takes about eight weeks for your body to absorb the treated veins and reveal the cosmetic results.
