Skin Laser Resurfacing (Erbium Laser)
Laser resurfacing employs focused energy to smooth wrinkles and scars, even pigmentation, tighten skin, and eliminate both benign and malignant lesions.
Laser treatments employ brief, concentrated pulses of light to treatment areas. Energy passes through the outermost layer of skin (epidermis) and heats the underlying dermis. The heat from the laser encourages the production of new collagen fibres, which results in smoother, firmer skin.

What Conditions Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Treat?
- Acne scarring
- Irregular skin pigmentation
- Birthmarks or skin scars
- Age spots including liver spots.
- Sun-damaged skin
- Fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, forehead, and mouth

How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?
At Cosmetic & Veins Clinic, we offer Erbium laser resurfacing.
Erbium laser resurfacing is tailored to eliminate both superficial and moderately deep lines and wrinkles and typically requires only a topic anaesthetic. As well as treating the face, this versatile laser can also yield great results when used on the hands, neck, or chest. A notable advantage of erbium laser resurfacing is its minimal impact on surrounding tissues, resulting in fewer side effects like swelling, bruising, and redness compared to CO2 lasers.
Before Your Treatment
To ensure optimal results and safety, we advise:
- For four weeks leading up to your procedure, we advise that you minimise tanning and extensive sun exposure.
- Refrain from any cosmetic treatments during these four weeks.
- Refrain from the use of medications known to cause photosensitivity, like doxycycline or minocycline, for at least 72 hours before your treatment.
- You may be advised to apply a topical retinoid to your skin for approximately four weeks before undergoing laser resurfacing to prepare your skin.
- Following laser treatment, your skin will likely be red and can feel tender. Symptoms such as redness, swelling, itching, or a stinging sensation might persist for several days.
- Within five to seven days after undergoing laser resurfacing, your skin will start to dry out and peel. Initially, the new skin will be pink, and should gradually transition to a more natural tone over the next two to three months.
- Follow your doctor’s instructions for cleansing the treated area two to five times daily.
- Twice a day, apply a thin layer of a provided barrier ointment or a hydrating moisturiser to the treated skin.
